| History |
Lincoln is the upscale luxury vehicle brand of Ford Motor Company. It was founded by Henry M Leland in August 1917 and named after Leland's hero, former American President Abraham Lincoln. Initial Lincoln models included the L-Series and the
K-Series.
The Lincoln Motor Company encountered serious financial problems and was acquired by the Ford Motor Company in 1922 for $8,000,000. By the '30s, Lincoln became one of America's bestselling luxury auto brands along with Cadillac and Packard. |
 |
| Expansion |
In 1936, Lincoln launched the luxurious Zephyr model which received a huge popularity. At one point, almost 80 percent of all Lincoln cars sold were Zephyrs. The Continental was launched in the '40s. It went on to maintain its glamorous status with vehicles, such as the Mark II. The Continental Mark III luxury coupe was introduced in 1968 and over one million Continental models were built by the late '60s. Mark IV and Versailles were launched in the '70s. The year 1981 saw the arrival of Lincoln luxury car division's flagship, the Town Car, as a model. The last Mark, the Mark VIII, made its debut in the '90s. It featured a four-cam V8 and air suspension. In 1998, the Lincoln Navigator was the first true full-sized ultra-premium SUV of the Lincoln brand.
At present, Lincoln vehicles are available in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Middle East and South Korea.
The Lincoln brand boasts of luxury sedans, SUVs and pickup trucks that include the Lincoln MKX, MKZ, Mark LT, Navigator and Town Car, which stand out for their powerful engines, unique styling and luxury features. Lincoln was the first American auto brand to offer anti-lock brake in its product. |
