2008 Acura MDX Review

Overview
Fitted with Acura's super-handling all-wheel drive (SH-AWD) and an available sport package with an active damper system, the 2008 MDX yields a combination of handling and comfort that is truly on the cutting edge. The MDX embodies Acura's commitment to performance, luxury, quality and style, together with parent company Honda's global mandate for safety and environmental care.
Engine and Performance
The Acura MDX's sophisticated 3.7-liter VTEC V-6 power plant develops 300 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 275 pound-feet of torque at 5000 rpm. That gives the Acura MDX the highest horsepower and torque output of any engine in the Acura lineup. A five-speed automatic transmission with sequential SportShift is standard, giving the driver the choice of fully automatic operation or manual shifting via a special shift gate. With the electronically controlled drive-by-wire throttle system and transmission working together to execute shifts, the Acura MDX delivers smoothly responsive acceleration.
Body and Styling
The 2008 Acura MDX sets new standards for Acura in styling, engineering, handling and safety. Its dramatic styling incorporates large surface areas, sweeping curves and decisive angles. Being longer, wider and lower than its predecessor gives it a more athletic appearance. The Acura MDX features a luxurious yet functional interior. The cockpit environment is focused on the driver, and features a host of technologies to make driving simultaneously more rewarding and relaxing. The interior design is as dynamic and contemporary as the exterior, with a 4 3 seating concept that luxuriously hosts four passengers in the first and second row seats, while also offering comfortable accommodation for three additional passengers.
Safety Features
The advanced compatibility engineering (ACE) unit body structure along with several passive safety technologies help take the 2008 Acura MDX to the next level of safety. Other safety features include active head restraints; dual-threshold air bag; supplemental restraint system (SRS); side air bags with front passenger occupant position detection system (OPDS); lower anchors and tethers for children; and child-seat mounting system.
