  2008 Chevrolet Malibu Review
  Overview

The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu family sedan has been redesigned, and features fresh styling, more available power, and some more safety features. The Malibu shares its basic design with the Pontiac G6, and is the smaller of Chevy's two midsize sedans. The 2008 Malibu can seat five, is 6 inches longer in wheelbase and 3 inches longer overall. It is available in LS, LT and LTZ trim. The Malibu Maxx hatchback makes an exit for 2008. A gas/electric hybrid model is part of the lineup.

  Engine and Performance

The Chevy Malibu LS and LT models have a standard 169-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that teams with a four-speed automatic transmission. Optional on the LT and standard on the LTZ is a 252-horsepower, 3.6-liter V-6 that teams with a six-speed automatic. A hybrid system as a powertrain choice features an Ecotec 2.4-liter, four-cylinder hybrid engine with variable valve timing (VVT) and a four-speed automatic hybrid transmission.

  Body and Styling

The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu is more muscular, dominated by neat lines and rounded curves. A new sheet-metal body features a new chrome surround grille, arched roofline and Chevy's bow-tie logo. The sedan's cabin has a distinguishing scalloped dashboard and a two-tone interior to highlight the center stack, dashboard, door trim and seats. Notable features include custom-fabric front bucket seats; driver information center; AM/FM stereo with MP3-capable CD player and six speakers; XM radio; and remote keyless entry.

  Safety Features

All-disc anti-lock brakes; side-impact air bags for the front seats; and side curtain air bags are standard. The Chevrolet Malibu LT and LTZ trims also come standard with GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability system and brake assist. OnStar provides an unparalleled level of safety, security and information.
