  2008 Dodge Avenger Review
  Overview

The Dodge Avenger has re-entered the market, this time with the reasonably-priced and stylish 2008 Dodge Avenger, which seats five passengers comfortably. Built on the JS platform - like Chrysler and Mitsubishi cars - it replaces Dodge Stratus, offering more features than others in its class. It is pitted against Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Toyota Camry and Pontiac G6. The front-wheel-drive Avenger comes in three trims: SE, SXT and R/T. An all-wheel drive version is also available.

  Engine and Performance

Different trims come with different engines in the Dodge Avenger. SE and SXT each have a 2.4-liter, I-4, variable valve timing (VVT) engine that generates 173 horsepower with a torque of 166 pound-feet. The R/T comes with 3.5-liter, V-6 engine that cranks out 186 horsepower and torque of 191 pound-feet. The SXT has the option of a performance-boosting 2.7-liter, PZEV, dual-VVT engine that also runs on E-85 blended fuel. The SE and SXT are propelled by a four-speed automatic transmission, the R/T by a six-speed automatic auto-stick transmission with manual shifting. Avenger offers a comfortable ride combined with exceptional handling and on-road composure, while remaining steady during maneuvers. The speed-proportional, power rack-and-pinion steering ensures supple maneuvers while the drive-by-wire electronic throttle offset bumps. SX offers the best fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

  Body and Styling

Avenger has sporty styling and is stiffer and stronger than its predecessor. The crosshair grille, large updated headlights, muscular rear shoulders, body-colored spoiler and chrome-tipped dual exhaust outlets make it look like a downsized Charger. The R/T stands out with a rear decklid spoiler. The car is four inches taller and accommodates high-perch seats for optimum comfort. It features an optional beverage cooling/heating system in the center console. Avenger rides on 18-inch aluminum wheels with P215/55R18 BSW all-season touring tires.

  Safety Features

Important standard safety of Dodge Avenger features include advanced multistage front air bags; supplemental side-curtain front and rear air bags; four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes; and a tire-pressure monitor and warning signal. The electronic stability program with traction control is optional.
