  2009 Dodge Journey Review
  Overview

Dodge is breaking new ground with the all-new 2009 Journey. The feature-packed and technology-driven 2009 Journey is an all-new crossover sport utility vehicle. The five- and seven-seat versions among the SE, SXT and R/T models fight it out with Ford Edge, Subaru Tribeca, Toyota Highlander and Hyundai's Santa Fe.

  Engine and Performance

The 2009 Dodge Journey comes with a choice of engines. The base engine is a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder that produces 173 horsepower. Higher models include the 186-horsepower, 2.7-liter engine; and the 3.5-liter, 235-horsepower options. While the four-cylinder and 2.7-liter V-6 have a four-speed automatic transmission, the 3.5-liter V-6 drives on a six-speed automatic.

  Body and Styling

The 2009 Dodge Journey is a stylish crossover SUV. It has an appealing design and is nimble considering its size. The exterior, befitting Dodgeâ??s strength and sturdiness, is athletic and sculpted. It carries the unique Dodge stamp all the way. The signature crosshair grille, chrome headlights, sculpted fender flares and rear spoiler are all vintage Dodge. A 16-inch, spoke-painted wheel cover is standard on the SE; while a 19-inch chrome-clad cast aluminum wheel comes on the SXT and R/T. The headlights are powerful enough to journey on a dark night, while quad headlamps are standard and fog lamps available. The bright tail lamps complement these. Overall, the 2009 Dodge Journey is 192.4-inches long, 72.2-inches wide, and 69.9-inches tall without the roof rack. Two-tone seats adorn the interiors. Integrated booster seats, an available option, are a definite value addition. The five-seat accommodation is standard, but it can be turned into seating for seven when the third row is opened. The 2009 Dodge Journey has a flip â??n stow system, a bin under the seat cushion of the front passenger. The cushion has to be tilted to use the bin. Similarly, there are also bins under the second row floor. The 2009 Journey also has a tip â??n slide feature by which the second row seats can slide forward or backward, allowing easy access to the third row. Cloth seats and a chill zone beverage cooler in the dashboard are standard. Other convenience features include Yes Essentials fabric, MyGIG music system, navigation system, backup camera and Bluetooth-based cellphone connectivity.

  Safety Features

Side-impact air bags for the front seats, all-disc anti-lock brakes, tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), three-row side curtain air bags and an electronic stability system are some of the safety features in the 2009 Dodge Journey. In addition side curtain air bags have been made standard for all three rows for the seven-seat option, which means no safety option has been overlooked.
