Dodge is a US-based brand of automobiles and trucks, sold by Chrysler LLC in over 50 countries worldwide. The Dodge Sprinter was engineered and built by Daimler-Benz; Dodge's sole contribution to the project was its logo. Though it was initially assembled by Freightliner, the full-size Sprinter van adopted a Dodge nameplate early in 2003. The van now competes in the same class as the Chevrolet Express, Ford Econoline Wagon and GMC Savana. For 2008, this 12-passenger van includes an emergency exit window. An electronic sliding door is available on cargo and passenger vans. For 2007, Dodge made the Sprinter wider, taller and longer, added two new engines, and increased cargo and towing capacity. Changes for 2008 are comparatively minor. Sprinter 2500 is available in cargo and passenger vans. Sprinter 3500 is available in cab chassis and cargo van. Both models come with five-speed automatic transmission equipped with a shifter that allows floor-mounted column shifting. The throttle response is quite good, with (seemingly) better acceleration than the earlier engine.

The Dodge Sprinter is powered by two new engines introduced for 2007. The 154-horsepower, 3.0-liter, V-6 diesel, and the 254-horsepower, 3.5-liter gasoline V-6 CRD turbo diesel engine that combines long life, low maintenance cost and high fuel efficiency. An optional 3.0-liter V-6 gasoline blasts 254 hp. Designed specifically for commercial applications, Sprinters come in 2500 (three-quarter ton) and 3500 (one ton) ratings; however only the 2500 series includes a passenger model. Both models have an independent front suspension, rear leaf springs and power rack-and-pinion steering.

New for 2008 Dodge Sprinter, is the electronic sliding door for both cargo and passenger vans, and the emergency exit window in the passenger van. The large grille compliments the Dodge Ram 2008 style. Sprinters ride on one of two wheelbases, 144 or 170 inches; and are 233, 273 or 289 inches long overall. The back doors open to the vehicle's full height, and swing open 270 degrees. One-touch, triple-flash turn signals and wide-angle mirrors are standard features. Front and rear bumpers are black in color. Both driver and front passenger have externally adjustable black, door-mirror indicator lights. Complex surface lens halogen bulb headlights come in handy during night drives. Sprinter can hold up to 12 passengers. Two people sit up front while as many as three more rows of seats can be customized. A standard, removable four-seat rear bench is new for cargo vans. For 2008, all models can have swivel bucket seats in front. Sprinters have a flat cargo floor and tapered rear wheel housing. Cargo volume is 127 cubic feet, though overall cargo capacity can swell to 600 cubic feet in some models. Air conditioning is standard on both models. Other features include a tilting and height-adjustable steering wheel, CD player, power windows and locks.

Safety features include all-disc anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control as standard in 2008 Dodge Sprinter. Side-impact and side-curtain air bags are also available. Traction control, front height adjustable safety belt, and front seatbelt pre-tensioners, all ensure a safer drive.
