The 2008 Ford Super Duty F-250 is a series of full-size pickup trucks from the Ford Motor Company. The market presence of the F Series trucks spans over more than five decades. The series has five trims: XL, XLT, FX4, Lariat, and King Ranch. All trims come in two driving configurations: all-wheel-drive (AWD) and two-wheel-drive (2WD). These trucks differ from each other in respect of the size of the box. All trims come standard with a wide range of warranty coverage. This includes a 3-year or 36,000-miles bumper-to-bumper warranty, a 5-year or 60,000-miles powertrain warranty, and a 5-year or 60,000-miles roadside assist warranty. The 2008 Super Duty F-250 is the eleventh generation vehicle of the Ford heavy duty trucks in the pick up segment. Ford split its F-series trucks into two different body styles in the tenth generation. The new F-series trucks are being called Super Duty. The first F-series truck, known earlier as Ford Bonus, was launched in 1948. The series was refreshed in 1953 with a more integrated look. Then the vehicles were renamed: F-1 became F-100, F-2 became F-250, and F-3 became 1-ton F-350. In 1965, the trucks saw the introduction of twin I-beam front suspension with coil springs. Again, the re-styling was effected in 1967 for the fifth generation trucks (1967-1972). Next year, the company introduced 360 and 390 cubic-inch FE engines. The sixth-generation (1973-1979) trucks were born in 1973 with an option of automatic transmission. In 1976, the F-series became the best-selling truck in America, a position it has continued to hold since. A luxury Lariat trim was introduced in 1978. With the arrival of the all new "Super Duty" series in early 1998, the standard F-250, F-250HD, and F-350 line was totally dropped and the F-250 was offered as the "7700" package for the F-150. New Lightning was launched in 1999 with Harley-Davidson and King Ranch versions. In 2001, the Super Crew Cab was introduced. The new trucks are a class apart with over 8,500 lbs GVWR. These trucks flaunt 2 massive "closed loop" front tow hooks. The F-series trucks can pull up to 30,000 lbs of weight with just one hook. The Ford Super Duty F-250 truck comes with a wide choice of engines which differ in horsepower, in torque, and in fuel consumption. Among these, two are gasoline engines and one is a diesel engine. All the trims come standard with a 5.4-liter 3-valve SOHC EFI Triton V-8 engine that generates 300 hp and 365 lb-ft. of torque. The available 6.8-liter 3-valve SOHC EFI Triton V-10 engine generates 362 hp and 457 lb-ft. of torque. The 6.4-liter power stroke diesel V-8 engine generates 350 hp and 650 lb-ft. of torque. The trucks running on gasoline have an electronic engine control system and a specially-tuned induction system with the 5.4L and 6.8L engines. The 6.4L 4-valve engine has an inter-cooled dual stage turbocharge induction system. The diesel engine runs on a high-pressure common rail fuel injection system, whereas the two gasoline engines run on a sequential electronic system. The F-250 truck has a choice of different transmissions. The 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard on all the trims. The optional TorqueShift 5-speed automatic transmission comes with overdrive and tow/haul mode. This durable and proven TorqShift transmission includes a selectable tow/haul mode that compensates for altitude, grade, and load conditions by automatically adjusting to reduce gear hunting while improving power delivery and control of vehicle speed on hills. The Regular Cab model has a fuel capacity (SWB/LWB) of 38 gallons, while Super Cab and Crew Cab can store 30.5/38 gallons of fuel. Ford claims that the F-250 can tow 2,500 pounds and carry a maximum payload of 2,410 pounds. The trucks have an average fuel economy of 17/13 mpg (city/highway).
