The 2008 GMC Canyon is a fuel-efficient, good looking truck that offers a smooth ride. For 2008, a tire-pressure sensor comes standard. One of Canyon's biggest advantages is the choice it offers of various well-sorted suspension setups, which provide impressive off-road and sporty handling dynamics. The Canyon comes in WT, SL and SLE trim levels.

The GMC Canyon is available in three configurations: standard cab, extended cab and crew cab. It comes with two engine options: a 185-horsepower, 2.9-liter, in-line, four-cylinder, standard on all Canyons except the four-wheel-drive crew cab; and a robust 242-horsepower, 3.7-liter, in-line, five-cylinder engine. Regular and extended cab models are available with base, SL, SLT and SLE trims, while crew cab models are available only with the SLE trim. Buyers can choose either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission; and either a two-wheel or four-wheel drive. The 4WD has a dual-range transfer case and push-button controls.

The attractive exterior has a square jaw and broad-shouldered stance, angular wheel arches, and a big chrome grille. The headlight treatment is effective. Optional features, depending on the trim, include satellite radio, sunroof and two suspension packages. The crew cab has four doors and a 60/40-split folding rear seat; while the extended cab versions are equipped with two small reverse-opening doors and rear jump seats. WT and SL trims feature cruise control, air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo. SLE models add upgraded stereo and upholstery.

Standard safety equipment includes side-curtain air bags; front air bags with passenger sensing system; anti-lock brakes; and a tire-pressure sensor. Traction control is available on two-wheel drive models having automatic transmission. The 2008 Canyon has received impressive crash safety test scores.
