The 2008 GMC Savana is a full-size van with a strong powertrain, dual passenger-access doors, and multiple wheelbase and passenger configurations. Stability control and side-curtain air bags are standard for the current year. The interior gets a new switchgear, steering wheel and instrument cluster; interior materials have been upgraded.

The 2008 GMC Savana is available in LS and LT trim levels. The standard-wheelbase (135 inches) Savana comes in half-ton (1500) and one-ton (3500) configurations. The standard engine on Savana 1500 models is a 301-horsepower, 5.3-liter, V-8 engine. A 323-horsepower, 6.0-liter, V-8 engine is standard on 3500 models. All 1500 models use a four-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive. An all-wheel-drive configuration is optional. The Savana 1500 pulls a maximum load of 6,300 pounds, while the heavy-duty 3500 pulls up to 7,600 pounds. The extended-wheelbase version (155 inches) is available on the 3500.

The 2008 GMC Savana is equipped with simple controls. Depending on the model, the standard seating configuration is for eight, 12 and 15 passengers. The LS models are geared toward fleet service. Their standard equipment includes AM/FM stereo, air conditioning and a theft-deterrent system. The LT models feature power windows, door locks, cloth upholstery, auxiliary rear air conditioning and heating, cruise control, keyless entry and tilt steering wheel. Optional equipment includes alloy wheels, power driver and front passenger seats, and audio system with an in-dash six-disc CD changer. The 60/40-split driver-side doors are optional for easier passenger access to the rear seats.

Anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, and side-curtain air bags for the first three rows are standard safety equipment in the 2008 Savana. In frontal-impact crash safety tests, it scored the highest possible five stars.
