2008 Honda CR-V Review |
| |
Overview |
|
| |
The Honda CR-V was one of 2007's best-selling sport utility vehicles. This versatile, crossover SUV package offers sedan-like handling and spacious seating for five passengers. For 2008, the CR-V builds further on its premium style and refinement with additional, upgraded features offered on the EX-L trim. The dual-zone, automatic climate control system is new. Also, replacing manual controls is an eight-way power adjustment for the driver seat and power lumbar support. |

Engine and Performance |
|
| |
The 2.4-liter, DOHC, i-VTEC, four-cylinder engine produces 166 horsepower at 5,800 rpm, and 161 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm. It offers a refined and responsive performance combined with good fuel economy and low emissions. A smooth five-speed automatic transmission is standard. The ride in the CR-V is almost noise-free. One wishes though for the addition of a V-6, which would have boosted the configuration options available for this vehicle. |

Body and Styling |
|
| |
The CR-V has a dynamic, forward cabin and a sculpted lower body that is rugged in appearance. The two-tier grille, and side profile with its arched window shape and chrome trimmings are distinctive.
The interior sees Honda's renowned ergonomics and innovative storage spaces integrate with modern and efficient styling. An abundance of standard and available features (like the navigation system with voice recognition and the rear view camera) highlight the attention to premium details. In fact, the rich quality of the interior can give any higher-end model a run for its money. Unfortunately, this quality is absent on the base model, especially when it comes to seat material. This is in stark contrast to all the other refinements. The backseats also tend to fold awkwardly. |

Safety Features |
|
| |
Standard safety features include side curtain air bags with a rollover sensor; front side air bags with a passenger-side occupant position detection system (OPDS); active front-seat head restraints; vehicle stability assist (VSA); an anti-lock brake system with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist; and a tire-pressure monitoring system. The CR-V has earned the highest five-star safety rating from the federal government for both frontal and side impacts; while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the CR-V as the Top Safety Pick in 2007. |
