2008 Honda Fit Review |
| |
Overview |
|
| |
The Fit is the newest addition to the Honda lineup. This subcompact, five-door hatchback is characterized by Honda quality, by its innovative packaging and fun-to-drive character. For 2008, the Fit sees no major changes; the only addition is a standard tire-pressure monitoring system.
The 2008 Honda Fit is ideal for urban, young people. When it was designed in 2007, it was for the city-mobile youngster on a tight budget; and it continues to appeal to this buyer. As can be expected, the fuel economy is a big plus point. |

Engine and Performance |
|
| |
The 1.5-liter, SOHC, 16-valve, four-cylinder, VTEC engine generates 109 horsepower at 5,800 rpm, and 105 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm. This compact and efficient power-plant is designed to be a performance leader among Fit's direct competition as a result of innovative technology that includes variable valve timing and lift electronic control (VTEC), drive-by-wire throttle control, and a low-friction engine design. |

Body and Styling |
|
| |
The Honda Fit is sporty and aerodynamic in shape, apart from being safety-oriented in design and structure. Fit Sport models (shown right) add an underbody kit, rear roofline spoiler and 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels to enhance aerodynamics and the premium, sporty look.
The interior provides a large cargo area for maximum utility. The basis of this is an innovative 60/40-split magic seat that allows seat backs to fold down or seat bottoms to flip up, providing a multitude of seating and cargo-carrying configurations. This year, some additional features have further enhanced utility. These include the configurable seat backs; optional auxiliary input to accommodate portable music players; and configurable second-row seats. On the disappointing side is the space available between the front and back seats, which makes driving slightly awkward when traveling with a full car, especially in city conditions. Also, the Fit could have been offered in more than a hatchback version. |

Safety Features |
|
| |
Standard safety features include dual-stage, dual-threshold front air bags; front side air bags with a passenger-side occupant position detection system (OPDS); side curtain air bags; and anti-lock brake system with electronic brake-force distribution. All seating positions have three-point seatbelts, while the front seats have automatic pretensioners. Two lower anchors and tethers for children (Latch) are provided in the outboard rear seating positions. |
