The Honda Pilot offers traditional sport utility vehicle versatility with eight-passenger seating in a refined and comfortable package. For 2008, a value package (VP) and a special edition (SE) are new additions to the lineup. The well-equipped Pilot VP replaces the Pilot LX, while the premium Pilot SE package adds to the features of the Pilot EX, which remains in the lineup. The 2008 Honda Pilot offers four trims (in 2WD or 4WD): VP 2WD, EX 2WD, EX-L 2WD and SE 2WD .

All 2008 Honda Pilot models are available with two-wheel (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD). Pilots with 2WD feature a 3.5-liter, i-VTEC, V-6 engine with variable cylinder management (VCM) for enhanced fuel efficiency. The VCM technology turns off three of the engine's six cylinders while cruising, thereby improving fuel economy. The 3.5-liter, all-aluminum, SOHC i-VTEC engine produces 244 horsepower at 5750 rpm, and 240 pound-feet of torque at 4500 rpm. Four-wheel-drive Pilot models have an all-aluminum, 3.5-liter, SOHC, VTEC engine (no VCM) and produce 244 horsepower at 5600 rpm, and 240 pound-feet of torque at 4500 rpm. Fuel economy for the FWD model rates at 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. The Pilot is classified as an ultra-low emissions vehicle (ULEV). Towing capacity is 4,500 pounds.

The Honda Pilot has an aggressive stance and signature Honda styling. Careful attention to body shape and utilization of under-body deflectors help make it one of the most aerodynamic SUVs in its class. The 2008 Honda Pilot can seat eight, but the third-row seat for three passengers offers tight legroom and is more suitable for children than adults. With the second- and third-row seats folded, cargo capacity is 88 cubic feet. With only the third-row seat folded, cargo capacity reduces to 48 cubic feet. Standard comfort and convenience features on the VP 2WD models include air conditioning; a tilt steering wheel; power windows and door locks; cruise control; keyless entry; and 60/40-split second- and third-row seats, each for three passengers. The EX 2WD adds an eight-way power driver seat, extra interior storage, automatic climate control and HomeLink. Buyers get the choice of an EX with leather seating (EX-L). The EX-L 2WD comes with a sunroof, satellite radio and heated front seats; while a navigation system with a rearview camera or a DVD entertainment system are optional on the EX-L. The SE is positioned between the EX and EX-L in terms of price as well as features. SE 2WD gets cloth interiors and adds a sunroof, satellite radio, rear DVD entertainment system and 115-volt power outlet.

All Honda Pilot models are equipped with standard anti-lock brakes; brake assist; advanced dual-stage, dual-threshold driver and front passenger SRS air bags; front side air bags with passenger-side occupant position detection system (OPDS); three-row side curtain air bags with rollover sensor; and a vehicle stability assist (VSA) system also known as electronic stability control. A tire-pressure monitoring system is also standard.
