  2009 Jaguar XF-Series Review
  Overview

The 2009 XF is Jaguarâ??s replacement for the S-Type, which it plans to phase out. It goes on sale from March 2008. As expected, the model exhibits everything that is unique about Jaguarâ?? the luxury, the vented grille, the aesthetic interiors. The 2009 Jaguar XF will compete with Audiâ??s A6, Cadillacâ??s STS, BMWâ??s 5 Series, Mercedes E Class and Lexusâ??s GS.

  Engine and Performance

This midsize, four-door sedan is high on power. Its three trims, Luxury, Premium Luxury and Supercharged, come with a standard 4.2-liter, V-8 engine with shift paddles on the steering wheel. The six-speed automatic comes with a powerful 300-horsepower and an awesome 420-horsepower. While the less powerful of the two can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, the 420-horsepower engine shoots to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds.

  Body and Styling

Since this is a completely new model, Jaguar has launched with it a design that will define all its sedans in future. With the XF, Jaguar has introduced features such as dynamic and winter modes, which optimize the accelerator progression as well as shift schedules and stability-system operation during foul weather. The result is a smooth ride during bad weather conditions. This feature certainly stands out. So does the touch-screen control. The adaptive suspension on the XF Supercharged trim gives it an extraordinarily smooth and stable ride. The prominent small grille and lower bumper vents compose the XFâ??s signature. The size of the alloy wheels varies between 17 and 20 inches. Other exterior highlights are the chiseled hood and the aluminum frames for windows. The headlights are larger and there are LCD tail lamps. The model has put in place computer active technology suspension (CATS), which is available on the Supercharged trim. The feature uses a network of sensors to monitor driving style and road conditions. With the help of the derived data, a high-speed processor fine tunes the adaptive shock absorbers, thereby ensuring that passengers get optimum grip, control and comfort. Some of the interior features are front and rear sonar parking aids; heated and cooled front seats; adaptive cruise control; a blind spot monitor; generic MP3 player or a USB storage device; Bluetooth wireless phone capability and inputs for an iPod. Sirius satellite radio is available as an option. The gear selector is a rotary knob-type. This signals a blend of the contemporary with Jaguar's characteristically traditional design. Another interesting novelty is that the switch does not have to be used in order to reach for reading lights or the glove compartment. Proximity sensors allow you to simple wave your hands for the task to be done. By folding the backseat forward, the already large trunk can be further expanded. These are just some of the thoughtful features available in the 2009 Jaguar XF.

  Safety Features

Safety features for front and rear side-impact protection include front-seat side-impact air bags, dual-stage frontal air bags and curtain air bags. Other standard safety features are anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, brake-force distribution, an electronic stability system and traction control. The front seats have active head restraints.
