  2008 Jeep Commander Review
  Overview

With the 2008 Jeep Commander, Jeep lives up to the model's reputation for toughness. It is the ideal vehicle when there's lots of work to be done. The 2008 Commander is available in three main trims - Sport, Limited and Overland. All trims come with a choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drive.

  Engine and Performance

The Sport 2WD trim has a 3.7-liter, SOHC V-6, which produces 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque; it is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The Sport 4WD also has a five-speed automatic, but featuring Quadra-Trac I, a new automatic transmission. It produces 305 horsepower from its 4.7-liter, SOHC V-8. The Limited 2WD has a 4.7-liter V-8 with HD transmission, while the Limited 4WD, has Quadra-Trac II, a more useful four-wheel-drive system. The other option on the Limited is the 5.7-liter, Hemi V-8, which produces 330 horsepower with its multi-displacement system. The topmost model, Overland, comes standard with the Hemi engine, and is certainly the most stylish in terms of interiors. It has 18-inch wheels.

  Body and Styling

Standard interior features across models are cloth upholstery, power heated mirrors, power windows, rear obstacle detection, air conditioning, AM/FM/CD stereo with six speakers, front bucket seats with lumbar adjustment, and a lift gate glass that opens by remote control. Optional features vary according to the model. Standard on all models are 17-inch wheels.

  Safety Features

Side-curtain air bags to protect the head, multistage front air bags, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, a tire-pressure monitor, electronic stability control, and rear obstacle detection are among the standard safety features. The features earned the 2008 Jeep Commander a five-star rating from the NHTSA.
