2008 Kia Sorento Review |
| |
Overview |
|
| |
The 2008 Kia Sorento has a truck-like body-on-frame design that allows the rugged crossover SUV its well-known off-road and towing capabilities. An extensive warranty and the price tag of an affordable compact SUV make it a popular choice of vehicle for budget-conscious families. For 2008, Kia Sorento gains a new second all-aluminum engine. The SUV has a truck-type platform, seating for five passengers, and rear-wheel-drive or 4-wheel-drive configuration choices. Three trim levels in Base, LX, and EX models are offered. |

Engine and Performance |
|
| |
Base and LX models are powered by a 242-hp 3.3-liter V-6 engine. EX models get a new aluminum 3.8-liter V-6 engine with 262 horsepower and 260 lb-ft. of torque. A 5-speed automatic with Sportmatic shifting is the sole transmission. Kia offers two 4WD setups: a standard system and Kia's Torque-On-Demand system. Fuel economy ranges from 16/22 mpg (city/highway) for the LX 3.3L V6 4X2 to 15/20 mpg (city/highway) for the EX 3.8L V6 4X4. |

Body and Styling |
|
| |
The Sorento is stylish, rugged, and roomy. It shares styling cues with the Sportage and features a new multi-slat grille, narrow air dam, redesigned large headlights with orange rims, rounded body-side cladding, redesigned tail-lamps, and a rear fascia with reflector inserts. The Sorento's dash incorporates audio and climate controls and new instrument gauges. Each trim level upgrades to increased amenities. Rear seats fold in a 60/40 split, increasing cargo volume to 31.7 cubic feet. |
