  2008 Mitsubishi Galant Review
  Overview

The 2008 Mitsubishi Galant is a midsize sedan available in DE and ES trims. It also comes as a sportier, more flamboyant model, the Ralliart, which spearheads the restyled Galant midsize sedan lineup. But whether it's the value-packed ES or the racy new Ralliart, Galant offers dynamic driving pleasure, supported by 25 years of the Mitsubishi Motor Sport heritage.

  Engine and Performance

A 2.4-liter, in-line four-cylinder engine powers the DE and ES, delivering 160 horsepower and 157 pound-feet of torque. The Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart sports Mitsubishi's Mivec variable valve timing with a 3.8-liter V-6 that generates 258 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, taking the car from zero to 60 mph in 7 seconds. The in-line four-cylinder engines are teamed with a four-speed automatic transmission, while the V-6 gets a five-speed automatic. All transmissions include a manual-shift mode.

  Body and Styling

The improved styling of all Mitsubishi Galant models is distinguished by the sleek new front fascia featuring a new grille with chrome surround, the new bumper and sculpted tail end. The cabin is well-accommodated and enhanced with new design accents and upscale materials. Ride and handling have been refined for better driving comfort and racier engagement. Ralliart models have exclusive styling cues and a sport-tuned suspension. Standard features include air conditioning, 140 watt/six speaker audio systems, cruise control, and an integrated key and key fob for the trunk.

  Safety Features

Available safety features include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (only on ES and Ralliart), traction control, side curtain air bags, Latch system for child safety, and front side air bags. Standard side curtain air bags have been added to the comprehensive safety package, which also includes advanced front air bags with occupant sensors and front seat-mounted side-impact air bags. For 2008, a tire-pressure monitoring system has been added.
