  2008 Mitsubishi Outlander Review
  Overview

The 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander combines the functionality of a sport utility vehicle with the power of a V-6 engine to deliver agile handling most suitable for a vehicle that promises to 'go anywhere'. The redesigned Outlander is a compact crossover utility vehicle and one of the hottest-selling models in the evolving compact sport utility segment. Loaded with exciting new features, the Outlander comes in ES, LS and XLS trims, each with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

  Engine and Performance

Mitsubishi ES versions have a new 168-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). LS and XLS come with a 220-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6 and a six-speed automatic transmission. The V-6 is no longer offered on the ES. Front-wheel drive is standard, but all models have a choice of the optional all-wheel drive configuration feature. The warranty is one of the best in the industry with a 10-year/100,000 miles powertrain limited warranty, a 5-year/60,000 miles new vehicle limited warranty, and 5-year/unlimited miles roadside assistance.

  Body and Styling

The new Mitsubishi Outlander has a wider track, designed to make the vehicle more stable. ES and LS models can seat five. XLS seats up to seven and has a third-row bench seat that folds flat onto the cargo floor. Unique to the 2008 Outlander is a flat-fold rear tailgate, which also serves as a seat or picnic table. Standard equipment on the base 2.4 ES includes air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD audio system with six speakers, and power accessories with remote. For 2008, all Outlander models are available with a wireless cell phone link and navigation system.

  Safety Features

Safety features include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, traction control, anti-skid system, curtain side air bags, front side air bags, cruise control, anti-theft security alarm system, child safety locks (rear doors), and an engine-immobilizing security system.
