  2008 Pontiac G8 Review
  Overview

For this model year, GM plans to revive the Pontiac G8 tradition - a combination of athleticism, head-turning looks and raw power - with its GT and base models. The revival is aimed at steering the company's sedan segment into a new direction. Prominent changes include the introduction of a rear-wheel drive and making the sedan affordable in relation to its foremost competitor, BMW M3.

  Engine and Performance

The 2008 Pontiac G8's GT model has a 6-liter, V-8 engine, and an optional six-speed automatic or manual transmission with a weight distribution of very nearly 50:50. Built on the Zeta platform, this sedan has a mighty output of 362 horsepower at 391 pound-feet of torque and zips to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds. The on-demand displacement technology shuts off four of its cylinders when the full torque is not needed. The G8's base model emits 261 horsepower on its 3.6-liter, V-6, DOHC engine with 250 pound-feet of torque.

  Body and Styling

The fenders look more flared, and the hood has three symmetrical nostrils. The rear is a tad trendier with its rectangular exhaust, clearer tail lamps and more sculpted window lines. The V-8 model is fitted with 19-inch wheels, while the V-6 comes with 18-inchers. The two-tone interior leather is new for this year.

  Safety Features

Anti-lock braking system; dual-stage front and side-impact air bags; driver and front passenger head curtain side-impact air bags; and a front and rear outboard seating position with a passenger sensing system make up the standard safety features of the 2008 Pontiac G8.
