  2008 Pontiac Vibe Review
  Overview

The 2008 Pontiac Vibe is a simple entry-level hatchback that is made special by its pedigree - an amalgamation of two auto heavyweights, GM and Toyota. While it has been styled by Pontiac, the engineering is by Toyota. Vibe is the only model from Pontiac to be manufactured under this agreement, as is Toyota's Matrix. But the five-seat Vibe is a slight disappointment in terms of range - it has only one drive: front-wheel, and only one engine; the more powerful engine and the all-wheel drive have been discontinued from 2007. However, for 2008 the Vibe has added safety features and high EPA.

  Engine and Performance

The 2008 Pontiac Vibe comes in only one engine - a 126-horsepower, 1.8-liter, four-cylinder. There is a choice of transmission, though - five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

  Body and Styling

With its sleek wedge shape and short overhangs, the Pontiac Vibe looks more like a sport utility vehicle than a hatchback. Standard are 16-inch steel wheels, while 17-inch aluminum wheels are optional. The roof rack integrated into the roofline, as well as the reclining side windows stand out among this year's exteriors. The cargo can go up to eight feet. While a CD stereo is standard, an in-dash six-CD changer, XM satellite radio and leather seating surfaces are among the optional interior features.

  Safety Features

Anti-lock brakes, an electronic stability system, side-impact and side curtain air bags, tire-pressure monitoring system and GM's OnStar communication system are among the safety features of this hatchback.
