  2008 Porsche Boxster Review
  Overview

The 2008 Porsche Boxster is a two-seater roadster that offers the fun of a sports car. The Boxster's power top opens or closes in just 12 seconds. This convertible is exceptionally fast and offers sublime handling. The cross-drilled, internally-vented brake discs ensure excellent performance even in wet conditions.

  Engine and Performance

The 2008 Porsche Boxster is available in four trim levels - the standard Boxster, S, Limited Edition and Limited Edition Boxster S. The Boxster is powered by a new six-cylinder engine with four-valve cylinder heads. The standard Boxster and Limited Edition are equipped with a 245-horsepower, 2.7-liter engine; while the Boxster S and Limited Edition Boxster S are equipped with a 295-horsepower, 3.4-liter engine. The standard Boxster model is mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed manual transmission is standard on the Boxster S. Both the models can be attached to Porsche's five-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission with manual shift control. Fuel economy of the standard Boxster manual transmission is 23/32 mpg (city/highway); for the Boxster Tiptronic S automatic transmission it is 21/28 mpg (city/highway). The standard Boxster and Limited Edition propel to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, the S in 5.2 seconds and the Limited Edition S in 5.1 seconds. The standard Boxster and Limited Edition record a top speed of 160 mph, while the Boxster S and Limited Edition Boxster S record 169 mph. The Boxster features the latest generation of hydraulically assisted rack-and pinion steering to enhance its performance.

  Body and Styling

The 2008 Porsche Boxster gets new LED taillights, a ear bumper and larger wheels. The LED headlamps and front fascia have been upgraded. Air intakes have been rounded-off for 2008. Standard convenience features on the Boxster include a three-spoke steering wheel; water-based paints; heated rear glass window that allows optimum visibility in all conditions; heated adjustable outside mirrors; manually adjustable climate control; one-touch power windows; front and center console with storage console and lockage glove box; and digital AM/FM radio with in-dash CD player. The Boxster Limited Edition gets black wheels and a solid orange color finish offered on the 911 GT3 RS. Its standard 18-inch alloy wheels sport a five-spoke design. Both the Boxster and Limited Edition models feature strong, light and compact four-piston aluminum monoblocs that lend quick and easy pedal response. The sport chrono package option allows the driver to reprogram the electronic controls of the convertible to suit different driving styles. An optional hardtop made from a robust aluminum is also available. Park assist, Bose surround sound system and sound package plus are some of the optional features available.

  Safety Features

The Porsche Boxster is equipped with the latest safety devices, including Porsche's stability management (PSM), which provides additional control in difficult driving conditions. The PSM monitors the car's direction, velocity, speed and acceleration. Anti-brake system, automatic brake differential and anti-slip regulation functions are integrated with the PSM to help in maintaining traction and stability. Two full-size advanced air bags, dual side air bags, an anti-theft protection system, tire-pressure monitor, bi-xenon lighting system and rollover safety bars are other standard safety features.
