  2008 Saab 9-5 SportCombi Review
  Overview

The 2008 Saab 9-5 SportCombi wagon is the right choice for families and those who seek a good alternative to the sport utility vehicle (SUV). The new 9-5 offers spacious interiors and simple controls. This four-door, five-passenger luxury wagon offers smooth power, and sophisticated exterior and interior styling.

  Engine and Performance

The new Saab 9-5 SportCombi is available in two trims: 2.3T and Aero. It's equipped with a 2.3-liter, in-line 4, turbo-charged engine that churns out 260 horsepower and 256 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission is standard, while a five-speed manual transmission with overdrive is optional. Both trims have front-wheel drive.

  Body and Styling

For 2008, the Saab 9-5 SportCombi offers an abundance of space for passengers and luggage. The cargo capacity is 37 cubic feet when the rear seats are in use, and 73 cubes when the seats are folded. The new 9-5 is extremely comfortable, particularly when the ventilation feature is installed. The 2.3T comes with a sunroof; 17-inch wheels; eight-way front sport seats; leather upholstery; tilt-telescoping steering wheel; heated front and rear seats; cooled glove box; dual-zone automatic climate control; rain-sensing windshield wipers; nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system; satellite radio and auxiliary audio jack. To most of these features, Aero adds a sport-tuned suspension, different 17-inch wheels and two-tone leather seats.

  Safety Features

The Saab 9-5 SportCombi is equipped with a host of safety gadgets that include active head restraints and front-seat side air bags to protect the head and torso; electronic stability system; traction control; and anti-lock disc brakes. The OnStar communications system is standard. In government crash tests, the 9-5 secured five stars for driver and front-passenger protection in frontal impacts. In the side-impact test, it earned five stars for front passenger protection and four stars for rear protection.
