2008 Toyota RAV4 Review |
| |
Overview |
|
| |
The Toyota RAV4 is a compact sport utility vehicle, the smallest offered by Toyota. The RAV4 is among the most versatile, compact crossover-type SUVs, delivering power, performance and interior comfort. Apart from the base model, the 2008 RAV4 is available in Sport and Limited trims. It comes with a choice of two engines: a four-cylinder and a V-6. |

Engine and Performance |
|
| |
The two engines include a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine; and a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The standard engine is more fuel-conscious. The 2.4-liter, four-cylinder is rated at 166 horsepower with 165 pound-feet of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. It is equipped with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and teamed exclusively with a gated-shift, four-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5-liter, V-6 engine, on the other hand, offers an impressive 269 horsepower at 6,200 rpm, and 246 pound-feet of peak torque at 4,700 rpm, making RAV4 the most powerful vehicle in its class. The V-6 is exclusively paired with a gated-shift, five-speed automatic transmission. |

Body and Styling |
|
| |
The Toyota RAV4 has undergone significant changes since its debut in 1995. The old styling has been replaced by sleek, modern and rugged good looks. The model is much in demand for both its style and comfort. Halogen headlamps; grilles in a choice of chrome or black; and black roof rails and crossbars all add to its striking look; while the high solar energy-absorbing glass points to its sophistication. The 0.33 coefficient of drag (Cd) is among the best in its segment and a major factor in minimizing wind noise and maximizing fuel economy.
The RAV4 seating allows for numerous configurations. The 50/50 third-row seats, with fold-flat-into-floor capability, provide more cargo space when compared to other midsize SUVs. However, the design of the interior leaves an impression of budget constraints. The side-hinged rear gate tends to impede curbside loading. As the driver's seat is a bit of a tight fit, tall drivers may find it difficult during long drives. |

Safety Features |
|
| |
The 2008 Toyota RAV4 offers several standard safety features, including front and side curtain air bags; and a three-point seatbelt system for all seating positions. It has child-protection rear door locks, and a restraint system with tether anchors. In addition there is an anti-lock brake system with electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and enhanced vehicle stability and traction control. |
