  2008 Toyota Sequoia Review
  Overview

The Toyota Sequoia combines technology, safety and practicality. The 2008 Sequoia offers a new body, new interior and chassis; and an available new 5.7-liter, V-8 engine with a six-speed transmission. This full-size, premium sport utility vehicle is an attractive option for large families, particularly given its increased focus on efficiency, performance and comfort. The 2008 Toyota Sequoia is available in three trims - SR5, Limited and Platinum.

  Engine and Performance

An available new 5.7-liter, DOHC, V-8 engine enables the 2008 Toyota Sequoia to provide acceleration that is among the best in its class, especially while towing. Sequoia engineers developed the new engine to produce 381 horsepower, one of the highest outputs in this class of vehicle. The engine is ULEV-II-compliant and uses four valves per cylinder as well as dual variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) to produce 401 pound-feet of torque. A new six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission (ECT) is part of the powertrain package for the engine. Thanks to this transmission's tall top gear, highway mileage is 1 or 2 mpg more than that offered by the 4.7-liter V-8. The standard 4.7-liter, V-8 engine is mated to a smooth-shifting, five-speed electronically controlled automatic (ECT). While the Sequoia satisfies all requirements to make a great car, it tends to be expensive, loaded as it is with such a wide range of options.

  Body and Styling

Chrome grill surrounds and a rear spoiler add to the Toyota Sequoia's striking exterior. Fog lamps and mudguards enhance safety and convenience. The overall length, width and height of the SUV have been increased; the wheelbase is longer; and the front and rear tracks wider. A power tailgate and rear seats that fold flat at the push of a button are truly welcome conveniences when you find yourself dodging raindrops to stow goods. The open cargo area, fold-flat seats and tall tailgate make different configurations possible and easy. On the downside, the audio and navigation controls are difficult to reach while driving.

  Safety Features

The 2008 Toyota Sequoia offers several standard safety features, including front and side curtain air bags; and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Its convenient dynamic laser cruise control senses nearby traffic and adjusts the speed of the car accordingly. The Sequoia gives a safe ride as it is has anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, vehicle stability control and traction control.
