If there's one truck that stands out it is the Toyota Tacoma. This midsize pickup is a best seller in its segment, and equipped with some of the most sophisticated dynamic control technology in its class. The 2008 Tacoma offers a four-cylinder engine and a V-6; and 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains. The popular PreRunner models combine the 4x2 drivetrain with the 4x4's raised riding stance and styling. The model offers a comfortable cab, a refined ride, responsive handling, proven off-road capability and, above all, quality construction.

The regular and access cab models are powered by a 2.7-liter, four-cylinder engine rated at 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. It has a choice between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission. The double cab is powered by a 4.0-liter, V-6 engine rated at 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque; and equipped with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. In both engines, variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i) helps provide strong low-end and midrange torque. However, the V-6 engine can get noisy.

Toyota Tacoma comes in regular cab, access cab (extended cab) and double cab (crew cab) body styles. Regular and access cabs come with six-foot beds. The double cab comes with the choice of a shorter five-foot bed or a standard-sized six footer. The Tacoma looks good and projects strength and ruggedness. It is equipped with large headlights and a bold grille. The interior provides durability and comfort with high-grade fabric and generous standard equipment. Sound absorption material in the headliner and behind rear seats, as well as insulating carpeting, help to provide a quieter cabin. Exterior aerodynamic details help reduce wind noise. A three-pod instrument gauge panel lends a sporty look to all models. The center console (standard on access cab and double cab models; available with bucket seats on regular cab models) flows into the instrument panel for a unified appearance. In the double cab, there is plenty of room in the rear for passengers to stretch their legs. However, the low seating position may give some a rough time during long drives.

Toyota Tacoma offers some of the most sophisticated dynamic control technology in the segment. Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist are standard on all model; while an electronic vehicle stability control (VSC) system is available for all. Side-impact and side curtain air bags are optional in double cab models.
