2008 Volkswagen Eos Review |
| |
Overview |
|
| |
In Greek mythology, Volkswagen Eos is the Dawn. And the Volkswagen couldn't have a better name for this compact, four-seater, two-door convertible that features an innovative power-retractable hardtop. Introduced for 2007, the 2008 Eos delivers brisk acceleration and a smooth ride. Volkswagen refers to the roof structure as coupe-sunroof-convertible (CSC). It incorporates a panoramic glass sunroof as well as a heated-glass rear window. The large sunroof panel can be opened without lowering the top structure. Eos comes with a 48-month or 50,000-mile warranty. |

Engine and Performance |
|
| |
The Volkswagen Eos offers two engine options. The 2.0-liter, turbo-charged, four-cylinder engine produces 200 horsepower and comes with a choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.2-liter, V-6 engine, producing 250 horsepower, also comes with an option of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard. The Eos runs on premium unleaded. The V-6 engine gives a fuel economy of 19 miles per gallon in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, while the turbo four-cylinder engine gives 21/30 mpg (city/highway).
The Eos is engineered for a relaxed drive, offering quick steering, solid handling and a comfortable ride. It is like a coupe when its hardtop is up, and a convertible with the hardtop down. |

Body and Styling |
|
| |
For 2008, Volkswagen has reorganized the trim and wheel options. Cockpit materials are top-notch, while fit and finish are excellent. Standard features include a 12-way power driver seat, dual power-heated mirrors, adjustable front head restraints, front and rear cup holders, dual door bins, air filter, four-wheel disc brakes, power front and rear windows, front-vented disc brakes, sliding arm rests, rear defroster, and remote CD with eight speakers. Leather upholstery is available with the luxury and sport packages. Also available is cloth upholstery in the base model; and an upgraded, semi-automatic climate control system that has been modified for the convertible. Adaptive bi-xenon highlights are optional.
The glass top of the Eos can be raised or lowered completely by remote control. Cargo space of 5.4 cubic feet is offered with the top down, and 9.3 cubic feet with the top up. In road tests, the extroverted styling and high-quality cockpit furnishings of the Eos were its key strengths. |
