The 2008 Volvo C70 is a two-door, luxury convertible with a retractable hardtop that has an inherent advantage in cold climates. It comfortably seats four. The C70 is one of the few convertibles to have front-wheel drive (the rest have rear-wheel). Loaded with comforts and conveniences, it delivers a powerful performance. The 2008 Volvo C70 comes in only the coupe/convertible model. It is powered by a 218-horsepower, turbo-charged, 2.5-liter, inline-five engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The five-speed automatic transmission is optional. Its fuel economy range is 27 miles per gallon on highways and 18 mpg in city areas. It comes with a warranty of 48 months or 50,000 miles.

For 2008, the Volvo C70 has brilliant styling. Seventeen-inch aluminum wheels are standard; while 18-inch bright-alloy wheels, fitted with summer performance tires, are optional. Also standard are the power-retractable hardtop; cloth upholstery; eight-way power front seats (with driver memory); automatic dual-zone climate control; full power accessories; heated exterior mirrors; and an eight-speaker audio system with a six-CD changer and auxiliary audio input. The Dynaudio premium sound system features an amazing total output of 910 watts of power, plus Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound and 14 speakers, including dual nine-inch subwoofers. An auxiliary audio jack is standard on both systems. The C70's new convenience package includes rear park assist, keyless drive, Volvo's blind spot information system, an interior air quality system and power retractable rearview mirrors.

Safety is given paramount importance in all Volvo vehicles. The C70 is the Top Safety Pick for 2008. Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control. An important component of side-impact and rollover protection is the inflatable curtain (IC), which, in the new C70 has been given a unique design. The curtain has an extra stiff construction with double rows of slats that are slightly offset from each other. This allows them to remain upright and offer effective head protection even with the window open. The curtain also deflates slowly to provide protection should the car roll over. The rollover bars mounted behind the seats automatically deploy for maximum safety in the event of a rollover accident. Anti-whiplash seats are also offered as standard equipment, while Volvo's blind spot information system is available as an option.
